The first minutes after someone joins decide whether they stay. This welcome bot for Discord posts a customizable welcome message in a channel, can DM a join message with rules and next steps, and can require a button or reaction before the rest of the server unlocks. Goodbye messages (not a decorative leave-message pack) keep the same channel informed when a member goes.
How the welcome bot works
Add server.ninja, open Welcome, and turn on the channel message. When someone joins, the bot posts your Discord welcome message — mention, server name, and member count filled in automatically. That is the same job as a dedicated welcome bot discord install, without a second bot to permission. Welcomer is the best-known name for this job; server.ninja does the same greet-orient-first-message work without a second invite.
Welcome message variables
The join message supports embed title, description, color, image, and footer. Variables auto-fill: {user} (mention), {server}, {membercount}, {user.tag}. Use them for a personal Discord join message (“Welcome, @nova — you are member 1,204”) without hand-editing every time. Keep the welcome message short: rules link, where to pick roles, where to say hello.
Welcome DMs
A welcome DM is a separate private message sent with (or instead of) the channel post. Put the long rules, FAQ, or “start here” checklist in the DM so #welcome stays scannable. Discord may block DMs if the member’s privacy settings disallow server DMs — the channel welcome message still lands.
Verification gate
The verification gate is a welcome step, not a captcha or anti-raid product. New members see a button or reaction; clicking it assigns a Verified role and unlocks the rest of the channels. It is the same idea as a rules-agree screen. It is not a discord verification bot in the captcha / AuthGG sense — that is a different product entirely.
Goodbye messages
When a member leaves, you can post a goodbye message in a staff or public channel: name, account age, join date. Use it for a quiet audit trail or a friendly send-off. This is a goodbye message, not a “leave message” sticker pack.

1. Dashboard → Welcome → enable the channel welcome message. 2. Pick the channel and write the Discord welcome message (embed + variables). 3. Optional: enable welcome DMs with a rules or onboarding checklist. 4. Optional: enable the verification gate and choose the Verified role. 5. Optional: enable goodbye messages for the same or a different channel. Takes a couple of minutes. No extra welcome bot to install.
